Carlos Alcaraz stays on course for Indian Wells three-peat after beating Denis Shapovalov

Carlos Alcaraz is still on course for a three-peat at Indian Wells after a dominant 6-2, 6-4 victory over Denis Shapovalov in the third round.

Alcaraz wasted little time in asserting his dominance, winning the first five games and firing more than 10 winners in the opening set.

The world No. 2 stayed in complete control throughout, never facing a break point in the second set.

The Spaniard took 89 minutes to wrap up the contest, sealing the win with a massive overhead smash.

Alcaraz will face Grigor Dimitrov in the next round after the Bulgarian edged out Gael Monfils in a three-set thriller.

Sepaking after his win, Alcaraz said: "I knew at the beginning of the match that I had to be really focused. I had to start the match really strong, knowing it was going to be a really tough battle."
