Tryon makes her significant return to the Proteas having missed the three One Day Internationals and the one-off Test due to a back injury. She says winning the series will boost the team’s confidence ahead of the World Cup, which will take place in Bangladesh from 3-20 October this year.
“Look I think we played a lot of good cricket in patches but I think if you want to narrow it down as much as we can we want to be more consistent whether its batting, bowling or fielding. There werr key moments in the game where I felt that watching back from home, we could have stepped up a little bit more and we didn't, so we just need to consistent, giving us good confidence after the series going into a World Cup.”
Tryon is grateful to be back and says the team’s support was crucial during her recovery. With 96 appearances in T20 Internationals, she brings a wealth of experience to the team.
“It wasn't ideal to have an injury at that time, but you know we obviously had the discussions, and we had the World Cup in mind so just thought about taking extra time to narrow down everything and make sure make sure that I'm ready for it. Taking the extra time was really good for me and I had really a lot of support around me which is good I think that helped me.”
The 30-year-old expressed her excitement to reconnect with the squad, adding that she’s ready to lead the youngsters who have earned national call ups.
“Just being back in the team environment is like a second family to me and playing for the last 13/14 years of my career so I'm happy to be with the team again. We've got a lot of youngsters coming in so nice to have them here and hopefully I can give them as much as much as information as I can.”
