The popular Absa Run Your City 10km series is coming back with five races and more prize money to allow runners to raise extra cash.
Gqeberha will make its debut on 2 April, Cape Town (14 May), Durban (9 July), Tshwane (27 August), and Johannesburg (24 September) will host the other 10km races.
Each City has been allocated R252 000 from nearly R2 million in prize money with top runners Irvette van Zyl, Kesa Molotsane, Glenrose Xaba, Mapaseka Makhanya, and the Phalula twins Lebo and Lebogang, to mention a few, confirming their availability to run the race.
“I will run as many races as I can. I will not miss the opportunity to race and make extra cash. It is hard to earn a living running in this country and to get an opportunity to race means a lot to us runners. The more races, the more opportunities for us,” said Molotsane.
Makhanya returned to competitive road running after a two-year absence in 2022.
She ran the Joburg race on Heritage Day and is planning to run more races this year.
“I will not pass on the opportunity to race, giving us more choices this year. I am gradually returning to the road and will the races to regain my fitness and confidence and to make a few cents where possible,” Makhanya told SABC Sport.
