Despite missing key players Edson Castillo and Yusuf Maart due to suspensions, Chiefs made significant changes to their line-up, offering rare starts to Siyethemba Sithebe, Wandile Duba and Mduduzi Shabalala, while also recalling Edmilson Dove and Sibongiseni Mthethwa.

The game kicked off with AmaKhosi displaying early intent, with Duba squandering a promising opportunity within the first six minutes, skying his volley over the crossbar. City responded swiftly, as Darwin Gonzalez unleashed a fierce shot that rattled the upright, signalling their attacking prowess.

As the match progressed, both sides had their chances, with debutant Aprocius Petrus impressing for City with a thunderous long-range effort that tested Chiefs' goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma.
