Alcaraz takes Spain through to Davis Cup quarterfinals

Following a 2-1 defeat on Friday, World No 1 Carlos Alcaraz redeemed himself on Sunday as he put Spain through to the Davis Cup quarterfinals, after beating South Korea's Kwon Soon-woo in straight sets in Valencia.

Alcaraz swept past Soon-woo in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 (7/1), while teammate Roberto Bautista Agut had earlier beaten Hong Seong Chan 6-1, 6-3.

The Spaniards secured the top two spot alongside Canada in Group B and they will partake in the quarterfinals schedule to take place in November, in front of their home crowd in Malaga.

Meanwhile, Serbia and Sweden have been eliminated from the competition. The Serbians were downed by Canada™s Felix Auger-Aliassime who won in singles.

Croatia also advanced to the semis, taking the second place in group A behind Italy in Bologna. Croatia had started the competition with a 3-0 loss against Italy before showing a good 2-1 display against Sweden and then 3-0 over Argentina.

Australia and Germany are also through to the semifinals after the victory over France and Belgium earlier in the group stage. The Germans were the first to land in Group C with the win of doubles pairing Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz's 6-4, 6-4 over Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell.
