Alcaraz will take on Alex de Minaur as he chases his first indoor ATP Tour title and on the evidence of his win against Hurkacz, he will take some beating.
The Spaniard fell 4-1 down in a high-quality first set, but he roared back to win five straight games and then seemed ready to win close out the match in the second set tie-break.
An untimely double fault handed Hurkacz a route back into the contest, but Alcaraz showed his class in the third set with some sublime points.
His movement, shot making and sheer brilliance consistently drew gasps from the packed crowd, with Spaniard wrapping up victory in two hours and 23 minutes to book a place in his first indoor hardcourt final.
"I was a bit in trouble," Alcaraz said, looking back on the start of the match.
"I just felt every ball until the end. That's all I was thinking about, and I knew that I was going to have my chances."
"His level at that time was unbelievable, really high, so I knew that it was about time.
"I am really happy to have been able to fight every ball and to save the break points that I had to (save) to not be 1-5 down, and in the end, it paid off."
This match was special for so many reasons and Hurkacz can take almost as much credit as Alcaraz for a spectacular show.
The shot of the night was so nearly a tweener through-the-legs effort from Alcaraz that roared past Hurkacz and narrowly landed in the tramlines.
If it had landed in court, it might have been the best tweener of all time, but Alcaraz's near miss on that shot was compensated by a stream of sensational winners.
The Wimbledon and French Open champion headed into this match with doubts over his fitness, but he is now operating at maximum capacity and it is a stunning sight.
"I played really good tennis today, a really high level. And I have done the right things again," added Alcaraz.
"I was really focused before the match, on my things, on my own tennis. I tried to put everything in today. Being aggressive, pushing him to the limit every point.
"I think I did the perfect match and I am happy to keep improving every day. Hopefully in the semi-finals, I will be even better."
Tennis players often downplay their level of performance, but Alcaraz had ever right to suggest he delievred a perfect match to beat Hurkacz.
Now a thrilling tournament in Rotterdam has a fitting final as the two best players in the tournament meet in the final
Third seed de Minaur progressed to his second consecutive final in Rotterdam with a 6-1 6-2 victory over qualifier Mattia Bellucci and once again, the Aussie served up a polished performance.
"He's played with so much confidence this whole week and played some incredible tennis," said De Minaur.
"I knew going in it was going to be a battle and he was going to play loose. I just had to do my best to stay with him early and see if I could get my chances early.
"Then it became a little bit more of an uphill battle for him, but he has a very, very bright future ahead."
On this form, Alcaraz looks like the only player in men's tennis who would have a shot at beating world No 1.
And any doubts he may have had playing indoors should have been banished by his magnificent display against Hurkacz.
