World number one Iga Swiatek has edged Bianca Andreescu 7-6 (7-2) 6-0 in the Italian Open quarter-final to extended her winning run to a straight 26 matches.

The reining Rome Champion cruised through the second set after Canadian Andreescu had forced a tie-break from 5-3 down in the opener.

The 20-year old, is now on a promising track to clinch her fifth consecutive WTA title and will face Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-finals on Saturday 14 May.

Number three seed Sabalenka is fresh from a 4-6 6-3 6-2 victory over Amanda Anisimova for the first time in five meetings.
