Du Plessis won't alter fighting style for Bandu at EFC 98
EFC athlete Jaco Du Plessis says he will not alter his fighting style when taking on Diego Bandu of the DRC in their main-card middleweight bout tomorrow night.
With a record of 2-0-0 [2 wins, 0 loses, 0 draws], the 26-year-old is usually strong and effective on his feet and boasts a solid wrestling base.
He is confident his approach can get the job done and, as it turns out, the two know each other very well from their amateur days.
"Honestly man, since I've joined the pro team here at CIT, I feel I have strengths in every aspect of the game, whether it's standing, wrestling, on the ground. I don't think I have to change my gameplan because I know I'm good in all aspects," Du Plessis told SABC Sport.
"So, yeah, wherever the fight goes, I feel comfortable. There's no need to change any game plans or anything, we just go out there and do what we do each and every day."
Both fighters currently boast unbeaten records and Du Plessis goes into the cage with a lot of respect for Bandu, though he wont be overwhelmed.
"Funny enough, I've been watching him since his amateur days when I was still an amateur. He was undefeated as an amateur, I was undefeated as an amateur and I actually thought we would clash in the amateur ranks," he added.
"Before we could clash, he went pro and I went pro a little bit afterward, and finally we are going to clash - he's still undefeated and I'm still undefeated, so it's going to be an exciting fight.
"I know he has a lot of strengths, I know he has great stand-up and a lot of knockout power, but I also have a lot of strengths and, yeah man, it's going to be epic."
