Ons Jabeur claims Charleston Open title

Ons Jabeur produced some scintillating tennis to dethrone Belinda Bencic and win the Credit One Charleston Open on Sunday.

The world number four needed two hours on the clay courts of the American city to best Bencic 7-6(6) 6-4, claiming her 12th WTA Tour title in the process.

At the end of the opening set, Benic showed incredible mental strength to fight off no less than five set points. And leading 6-4 in the tiebreak, it appeared Bencic had done enough. But Jabeur rallied to win four consecutive points to take the set.

A deflated Bencic then slumped to a 4-1 deficit in the second set and while she would get one break back, Jabeur cooly shut out the set and match.

"I've been wanting to win this tournament for a long time," said the Tunisian, as per wtatennis.com.

"People have been amazing to me. So it's nice to have a great memory here in Charleston and this is a pretty good start to the clay season.

"I'm very excited to go to Paris and celebrate with my family and with my little nephew, who was just born three weeks ago. This is his gift. He doesn't know it, but it's his gift."
