Edinburgh ease past Lions in EPCR Challenge Cup

Edinburgh marched into the EPCR Challenge Cup quarter-finals with a commanding 24-12 victory over the Lions in the Round of 16 at the DAM Health Stadium.

The hosts made a blistering start, scoring within 90 seconds. A sharp line break from Darcy Graham created space for Wes Goosen to finish in the corner. Edinburgh continued to apply pressure, and Ben Velacott crossed after sustained attacking phases to make it 10-0.

The Scottish outfit dominated the collisions and breakdowns, and Jamie Ritchie added a third try before half-time, crashing over from close range to give Edinburgh a 17-0 lead at the break.

Despite trailing, the Lions showed spirit early in the second half, ending a scoring drought of over 120 minutes with a try from Francke Horn off a powerful maul.

However, Edinburgh struck again through Ali Price, who dotted down following a piercing break from Matt Currie.

Lions hooker Jaco Visagie scored a late consolation try, confirmed by the TMO, but it was too little, too late.

Edinburgh's control never truly wavered, even with Grant Gilchrist serving time in the sin bin alongside Lions full-back Quan Horn, who was yellow-carded for a dangerous tackle on Graham.

Darrien Landsberg was a bright spark for the visitors, leading in both carries and tackles, but the Lions' sluggish first half left them with too much to do.
