Fabien Galthie's charges scored three tries en route to a 35-16 victory over Scotland in Paris as they hoisted the title on home soil.
Two Yoram Moefana tries with further five-pointers by Louis Bielle-Biarrey and Thomas Ramos sealed the victory with Ramos racking up 20 points.
A win was enough to clinch the trophy for Les Bleus after the previous results earlier in the day.
Ireland's 22-17 victory over Italy in Rome kept their hopes of completing a hat-trick of Six Nations title alive for a few more hours, but Simon Easterby's side's dreams were dashed in Cardiff not too long after.
Steve Borthwick's charges emphatically stayed in the race, running in 10 tries to notch up a record 68-14 Six Nations victory over Wales at the Principality Stadium.
The results on Super Saturday have not translated into any movement on the official World Rugby rankings, with champions France remaining in fourth position behind Ireland.
Les Bleus have maintained the ranking that they entered the tournament with while Ireland's loss to France in the penultimate round of action saw them surrender second place.
Ireland were able to earn a maximum of 0.18 points by defeating Italy in Rome this weekend but because they fell short of the 16-point margin of victory, they earned just 0.12 points instead. That leaves them 0.53 shy of second-placed New Zealand and 2.95 ranking points behind South Africa.
England's hammering of Wales at the Principality Stadium earned them a 0.36 ranking boost, increasing their lead over seventh-placed Scotland to 2.37.
Wales' 16th successive international defeat did not result in another drop in the rankings regardless of what occurs in the Rugby Europe Championship decider against Georgia and Spain on Sunday.
Wales will jump from 12th to 11th though in the event that Spain beat Georgia with the Lelos falling as low as 14th if they lose by more than 15 points.
