Plumtree partially attributed Fassi's improved form to World Rugby's decision to scrap the 'Dupont Law' loophole.
Fassi has come to the fore with several outstanding performances at club and Test level and has established himself as the Springboks' first choice number 15 this year.
He shone in the Sharks' 21-15 triumph over the Stormers in their United Rugby Championship derby in Durban on Saturday and was rewarded with the official man of the match award.
The 26-year-old has been solid in dealing with high ball at the back for the Sharks and Springboks while he has also impressed with his counter-attacking ability to the delight of Plumtree.
"He is playing well, is currently in control of his game and is clearly enjoying his rugby. He is full of confidence," Plumtree told Netwerk24.
Under World Rugby's 'Dupont Law', there was a loophole in Law 10 in relation to players being put onside when there are kicks in open play. France scrum-half Antoine Dupont was known to exploit the loophole, leading to it being informally named after him.
In the past, players did not have to fall back when in front of a teammate who kicked.
However, the law was amended earlier this year with players who are in front of the kicker now expected to drop back and that has resulted in more space being created for the receiver, with Fassi among those who have benefitted from it.
"The chances he gets with the kicking game and the rules around it that have been adjusted count in his favour because he is so good under the high balls," said Plumtree.
"It's ideal for him and he can only go from strength to strength. He can be considered one of the best full-backs in the world and he deserves it because he has worked hard."
