Stormers keep Champions Cup hopes alive after thrashing Sale Sharks

The Stormers kept their Champions Cup hopes alive after producing a vintage display to thrash the Sale Sharks 40-0 at the DHL Stadium on Saturday.

Manie Libbok contributed 13 points as the hosts scored six tries in the encounter against their error-ridden opponents from the English Premiership.

JD Schickerling got his name first on the scoresheet, the lock going in for the opening try of the game after 22 minutes before Libbok added the conversion and try of his own to to the give the Stormers a 14-0 halftime lead.

Loosehead prop Sti Sithole barged over from close range for for the first five-pointer after the interval as the wheels started to fall off for the visitors who lost their disciplines.

The Sharks found themselves two men down after Rob du Preez and  fullback Joe Carpenter were sent to the sin bin for yellow card offenses.

The home side then ran riot for the rest of the match as Warrick Gelant, Paul de Wet and Andre-Hugo Venter crossed the whitewash to put the seal in a massive victory.

It was the Stormers' first win the competition after defeat in their opening two encounters and they next face Racing 92 in the final round of the pool stages in Paris.
