Wallabies veteran Kurtley Beale arrested on assault charge in Bondi

Wallabies veteran Kurtley Beale has been arrested for alleged sexual assault as part of an investigation into an incident at Beach Road Hotel in Bondi last year.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, a 28-year-old reported an incident of sexual assault on December 17 last year.

Beale has been taken into custody after being stopped at a vehicle stop and has been taken to Waverly police station.

"Rugby Australia, the NSW Waratahs and Rugby Union Players Association (RUPA) are aware of the situation involving Kurtley Beale," Rugby Australia said in a brief statement.

"As this is a police matter, and we understand there has been no charge made, we will be making no further comment at this time."

Beale, a veteran of 95 Test matches, had recently returned to the Waratahs set-up hoping to push for a spot at the World Cup in France later this year with the national side.

He also took part in a Wallabies training camp on the Gold Coast this month.

However, those dreams hang in the balance following his arrest. He becomes the second rugby union player this week to land in hot water on the domestic front as Rufus McLean of Glasgow Warriors pleaded guilty to domestic abuse.
