Agent: Brandon Truter comfortable with performance clause

The agent of newly appointed Richards Bay coach Brandon Truter has insisted that the experienced mentor has no issues with the club’s expectations.

As previously reported by SABC Sport, the former Moroka Swallows and AmaZulu tactician has stepped in to replace Vusumusi Vilakazi – putting pen to paper on a one-year deal carrying an option to be extended further.

It’s a clause that will require a review during the 2024/25 season, something which Vilakazi appeared to be uncomfortable with when proposed to him by Richards Bay chairman Jomo Biyela recently, and subsequently led to a parting of ways.

The Natal Rich Boys asked Vilakazi to attain 48 points from 30 matches, but the coach had reservations and decided to walk away.

But Basia Michaels has explained to the public broadcaster why Truter is more than happy to listen to the mandate being put forward by the hierarchy.

Performance clauses are a part of any contract. We don’t have a problem with targets and expectations from the club forming part of the coaches contract of employment. We are negotiating that aspect as we speak. Of course the coach has to assess the squad and be comfortable with the target put before him as it essential for me to create an overall understanding between the club and my client,” she said.

Truter was offered the job while busy preparing for the new campaign with Upington City in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, but could not turn down an opportunity to return to the Betway Premiership with immediate effect.

“The phone call from chairman Biyela came as a surprise because we all know the club still had a coach and one that he had publicly endorsed and was happy with. The turnaround on this deal was extremely quick,” added Michaels.

“I have to take a moment to thank the chairman Biyela for trusting me to come back into the country first [she has just concluded a deal for Khanyisa Mayo to join CR Belouizdad in Algeria from Cape Town City] and deal with this matter to ensure I had all my meetings face to face. It would be remiss if me to not thank the Upington management. The coach was there on Tuesday conducting training and by Wednesday afternoon we were in KZN with the blessing of chairman David Mogashoa. The rest falls into the history books as coach Brandon now has a month before the league starts.”
