Algeria and AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer out for four months

Algeria will be without AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer for four months due to a calf injury, the Serie A club stated on Monday.

Bennacer is not anticipated to play again before the end of the year after undergoing surgery on his right calf in Finland.

The 26-year-old, who had participated in Algeria's 2-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea in their opening 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on September 5, sustained the injury during training with the national team before the Desert Foxes' 3-0 win over Liberia on September 10.

Bennacer has made 171 appearances for Milan since joining from Empoli in 2019, shortly after helping Algeria win that year's Afcon in Egypt.

He also won the Serie A title with Milan in 2022.

"AC Milan can confirm that Ismael Bennacer underwent surgery in Finland this morning. The operation on his right calf was performed by Dr Lasse Lempainen. His recovery period is estimated to be four months," read a statement on the Rossoneri's official website.
