Andries Ulderink firm favourite for Cape Town City job

Cape Town City appear to have identified their next coach with Andries Ulderink expected to take the reins next season, SABC Sport understands.

Information gathered by the public broadcaster indicates that the 55-year-old with a UEFA A License has already communicated his desire to leave Glasgow Rangers in the Scottish Premier League.

Ulderink is assistant coach to Phillipe Clemente.

The Dutchman is no stranger to the Premier Soccer League having previously worked at Ajax Cape Town between 2018 and 2020 before heading back to his native Netherlands to take up a job with FC Twente.

City made the hot seat vacant when the club sacked Eric Tinkler on New Year’s Eve following a string of poor results, immediately appointing Muhsin ErtuÄŸral as the interim coach and announcing he would also take on the role of technical advisor at The Citizens moving forward.

Ulderink has built an impressive CV since his stint in South Africa, moving to top clubs Twente, Royal Antwerp in Belgium and now at Rangers – albeit as the second in command at all three clubs.

City have now afforded the experienced mentor an opportunity to be the head coach, working closely with ErtuÄŸral to help the club challenge for honours.

Although Tinkler had managed to keep City in the top eight in the four years he was in charge, the hierarchy wanted more given the investment in the squad and when he did not progress further in the MTN8 and Carling Knockout his wings were clipped as ErtuÄŸral took over.

Ulderink is the firm favourite to take over.
