According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, his desire for a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu has been fuelled by his ongoing struggle to secure regular playing time with Los Blancos.
Lunin's arrival at Real Madrid in July 2018 was met with high expectations, as he was regarded as one of Europe's most promising young goalkeepers. However, his career progression has been stymied by limited opportunities.
This season presented a glimmer of hope for Lunin when Thibaut Courtois sustained a long-term knee injury. Nonetheless, the signing of Kepa Arrizabalaga has further diminished Lunin's chances of seeing significant action. To date, he has only made two appearances in the current campaign, managing to keep a clean sheet in one of them.
Kepa Arrizabalaga, eager to secure a permanent move to Real Madrid in the 2024 summer transfer window, has even expressed a willingness to reduce his wages to remain with the club. However, Kepa's aspirations may jeopardize Lunin's position within the team, prompting Lunin to consider his future with Real Madrid.
This is not the first time that Lunin has contemplated leaving the Santiago Bernabeu. Earlier this year, he was also considering a departure, but a move failed to materialize. Courtois's injury setback during the summer likely prevented Lunin from making his desired exit from the club.
As the January transfer window approaches, Lunin's desire to seek opportunities elsewhere remains strong, and several clubs in both the Bundesliga and Premier League are reportedly interested in securing his services.
Lunin's potential departure from Real Madrid is a logical step for a player whose career has stagnated. However, the question remains whether Los Blancos will entertain offers for the 24-year-old Ukrainian international during the upcoming transfer window.
