Arthur Zwane pays tribute to mentor Muhsin Ertuğral

AmaZulu co-coach Arthur Zwane has shared warm words for newly appointed Cape Town City technical advisor and interim coach Muhsin Ertuğral.

The Turkish-born mentor had Zwane in his Kaizer Chiefs squad over two spells at the club in 1999-2000 and again between 2007 to 2009.

Zwane had a special tribute for ErtuÄŸral following news the 65-year-old had returned to coaching at City to replace Eric Tinkler.

"I'm happy for him, he's always been my mentor. It's always good to see him back because of his football knowledge and what he has done, especially believing in youngsters,” Zwane said.

“The way he structures his team, I learnt a lot from him. Actually, he's the one who encouraged me to become a coach. I started coaching when I was still playing at Kaizer Chiefs, I ended up having my own team because of him and the same style of play was the way he, coach Muhsin was coaching, the coaching style and many other things that I learnt from him."

The Usuthu coach says much of his success with an amateur team he owned was due to ErtuÄŸral and his influence.

"He became more like a father figure to me so yeah, I'm more than happy. My team actually dominated Soweto until I decided to sell the status because of the tactics. We were number one, I think probably for five years, the Discovery tournament they won it for four years and they ended up getting a promotion to the Vodacom League then," the coach added.

Meanwhile, with the transfer window opens this month and Zwane expects the club to make a decision on some of the fringe players as well as possible new arrivals in the coming days.

"So far we will look at the squad balance and also look at what we need rather than having a player that is available. So, we will look at what we need to beef up the squad and who do we think maybe we can give the opportunity as well, just for him to get game time because it's pointless to keep him here if he's not gonna play regularly. So, there are a lot of things that are very important for the growth of any individual."
