Ashley Du Preez promises to repay the faith shown in him by Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs striker Ashley du Preez believes he can repay the faith shown in him by the club when they offered him a two-year contract renewal by improving his scoring rate ratio for the next two years.

Du Preez joined Chiefs on a three-year contract with an option in June 2022, and the club has moved swiftly to extend his stay at the Taung Village in Naturena.

This season, Du Preez has scored only four goals from 16 matches in all competitions, and with strikers like Tashreeq Morris and Wandile Duba injured and Ranga Chivaviro struggling with form, he aims to repay the faith the club has shown in him.

"Yeah, definitely, as a player if the club trusts you, you need to give back to them. So, for me it's to be consistent and help the club because like I said if they trust you, offer you a contract,” du Preez said.

“So, for me as a player it's to give back them, helping them win games because they believe in me so I need to believe in myself and be consistent in winning games for the club.”

Now, in his third season with Chiefs, Du Preez has scored 19 goals and provided seven assists in 75 matches for Amakhosi, a rate that could have been higher if it had not been for injuries.

Now he’s set his sights on being the top goal scorer for the club and competing for Lesley Manyathela’s Betway Premiership top goal scorer for the next few years.

"To be a top goal scorer for the club and competing in the league for top goal scorer and I think for us as a club, score goals, win games, so if they believe in you and wanting you to stay for another two years you need to believe that you can achieve those goals. So, keep on working very hard on achieving those goals," he added.
