Pfeiffer, who was born in Hamburg, Germany, to Ghanaian parents, is currently in Mbombela and played in the opening Mpumalanga Premiers International Cup against Yanga this past weekend.
Two years ago, the Ghanaian Football Association listed him as one of their European-based players eligible for selection, together with Athletic Bilbao’s Inaki Williams, and he’s now declared his availability.
"Yes, a few weeks ago I was in Ghana and I now have my passport, so I hope they can call me up in September [for AFCON qualifiers]," said Pfeiffer.
"It's my motherland, I love the land, I love the guys, I love the vibes, I love the food. Yes, I was born and raised in Germany, but I love Ghana."
Williams made his debut for Ghana in 2022 and has already featured for the Black Stars in the Qatar World Cup and also the African Cup of Nations tournament in Côte d’Ivoire earlier this year.
Pfeiffer is a product of Darmstadt 98, and he helped them gain promotion to the Bundesliga in 2023/2024 before he joined Augsburg. Having represented the German U18 and U19 national teams, it didn’t come as a surprise that the Black Stars followed his progress. He says having the German-born Otto Addo as the current national team head coach makes this decision easier.
"Of course, I know the coach Otto Addo because he was the coach at Hamburg's youth team, and I've already had good contact with him," he added.
"I wanted to join the Black Stars before, but I didn't have a passport, and now it's done so I'm really happy. [Addo as coach] made it easy for me because I already know him."
