Barcelona edge past Dortmund in five-goal thriller

Borussia Dortmund, under the guidance of Nuri Sahin, fell short against Barcelona in a dramatic UEFA Champions League group-stage clash at Signal-Iduna-Park.

Despite a spirited effort, the German side succumbed to a 3-2 defeat on matchday six, with Ferran Torres' late goal sealing the win for the Catalan giants.

Barcelona started on the front foot, showing their attacking intent early.

Lamine Yamal forced a save from Gregor Kobel, and Raphinha narrowly missed the target with a powerful drive. Dortmund struggled to settle but created their first chance in the 16th minute when Marcel Sabitzer volleyed over from Julien Duranville's cross.

Jules Kounde tested Kobel at the other end before Serhou Guirassy saw a headed effort saved, although he was flagged offside.

Dortmund suffered a blow when Julian Ryerson was substituted at half-time due to a knock, with new signing Yan Couto coming on in his place. Guirassy thought he had broken the deadlock early in the second half, but his close-range effort was disallowed for offside.

Moments later, Barcelona took the lead. Dani Olmo's clever through ball set up Raphinha, who fired a clinical shot past Kobel.

The hosts responded quickly. Guirassy won and converted a penalty in the 59th minute, smashing the ball into the bottom corner to restore parity.

Barcelona regained the lead when Ferran Torres pounced on a rebound after Kobel saved Fermin Lopez's initial effort.

Dortmund showed resilience as Guirassy struck again, slotting home from Pascal Gross' defence-splitting pass.

However, a defensive lapse from Jamie Bynoe-Gittens allowed Yamal to race clear on the counter and set up Torres for his second goal. The Spaniard's composed finish left Kobel helpless.

Dortmund's night worsened in injury time as Nico Schlotterbeck was stretchered off while attempting to meet a late Gross free-kick.

The result left Sahin's side eliminated, while Barcelona secured second spot in the standings, three points behind Liverpool.
