Williams has returned to Bilbao following his vacation after winning Euro 2024 with Spain. The winger, who has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, has sent a reassuring message to Athletic fans, suggesting he plans to stay with the Basque club for at least another season. In his message, Williams expressed his excitement for the upcoming season, saying, "Hello, Athletic fans! I'm already back, and very excited for this season. Vamos Athletic!"
This announcement comes after weeks of speculation regarding his potential transfer to Barcelona. Williams had reportedly been considering his options, with doubts about Barca's ability to register his contract and his desire to continue playing alongside his brother Inaki in Bilbao playing significant roles in his decision.
Bilbao's manager Ernesto Valverde had confidently stated last week that Nico would remain with the team and Williams' message seems to support this stance. While reports from Catalonia indicate that Barcelona have not completely abandoned their pursuit of Williams and have assured him they can register his contract, it appears increasingly unlikely that he will be joining the Blaugrana.
Barcelona are now focusing on making Dani Olmo their major signing of the transfer window, further suggesting that Williams will continue his career with Bilbao for the foreseeable future.
