Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso 'not worried' about Jonathan Ta situation

Jonathan Tah's future at Bayer Leverkusen remains up in the air, as contract extension talks have reportedly failed to make progress.

The German defender, who is currently in his 10th season with the club, has been a key figure in their historic 2023/24 Bundesliga title win.

However, with his contract set to expire at the end of the 2024/25 season, Tah's next move is now a topic of intense speculation.

Exit options for the 28-year-old have emerged across Europe, with Barcelona leading the race for his signature.

The Spanish giants are reportedly keen on securing Tah on a free transfer, thanks to his versatility and cost-effectiveness.

Barcelona's interest in the defender aligns with their ongoing pursuit of reinforcements in the defensive department.

Negotiations for a potential move could begin as early as January 2025, but Barcelona is not the only club monitoring the situation. Other top European clubs are also said to be eyeing the player.

Despite the growing interest, Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has stressed that no decision has been made regarding Tah's future.

"We are happy Tah is with us this season. I'm not worried about the situation at the moment," said Alonso, as per quotes from Marca.

"We're happy Jona is with us. His attitude is top notch, he's a big influence on our game. We'll need him until the last day. Then we'll see what happens in the future."
