Bayer Leverkusen CEO dismisses Florian Wirtz and Xabi Alonso exit rumours

Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has firmly addressed speculation linking star midfielder Florian Wirtz and coach Xabi Alonso with moves away from the club, while the team grapples with a mounting injury list.

Speaking to Sky Germany, Carro expressed confidence that Wirtz, who has been linked with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Manchester City, would remain at Leverkusen. "Very high. Why shouldn't they be high?" he said when asked about the likelihood of Wirtz staying.

Wirtz, under contract until 2027, has become pivotal to Leverkusen's success.

Carro emphasised the player's contentment, adding, "As long as he feels comfortable here, knows he can play top football with a top team, and celebrate successes, he is happy."

Carro also dismissed reports suggesting Alonso has a pre-agreement to join Real Madrid next summer. "What I can deny one hundred percent is that there are any guarantees or agreements that I have heard in the media," he stated.

The focus, Carro insisted, remains on the present. "We are one hundred percent focused on the here and now. Speculation often annoys me. Nobody is interested in next season at the moment, and nothing has been finalised," he added.

Alonso's contract runs until 2026, further quelling the exit rumours.

Meanwhile, Leverkusen have confirmed that attacker Martin Terrier will miss the rest of the year with a fractured forearm sustained in Saturday's 5-2 win over Heidenheim.

This comes as a blow to Alonso, whose attacking options are already limited by injuries to Victor Boniface, Jonas Hofmann, and Amine Adli.

Despite the challenges, Leverkusen's focus remains sharp as they aim to maintain their Bundesliga title defence.
