Bayern Munich's last-gasp victory over Kiel sparks defensive debate

Bayern Munich clinched a thrilling 4-3 win against Holstein Kiel at the Allianz Arena over the weekend, but the match was not without its defensive concerns.

Vincent Kompany, Bayern's manager, provided insights into the performance, highlighting both the positives and the areas needing improvement.

"It was a pretty complete game until the 80th minute," Kompany said post-match. "But we also played against a team that was fighting for every moment.

"I thought we started the second half really well, but in terms of how we finished the game, that's something we'll have to review with the players."

Bayern's defence has been under scrutiny, having conceded ten goals in their last five matches. "In the past couple of weeks, we had some really good moments but also moments we need to improve," Kompany acknowledged.

"That's our job. Now we finally have an entire week where we can train. We're in a good position to do the work."

Amidst the defensive woes, Harry Kane shone brightly, scoring his 54th and 55th Bundesliga goals. Kompany praised the England captain, saying, "He has incredible qualities in terms of scoring goals. I was often asked what was wrong with Harry when he didn't score, he's always stayed calm, worked hard, and believed in his moments.

"I played against Harry and am now his coach; he's just impressive."

Looking forward, Bayern faces a busy schedule with a Bundesliga showdown against Bayer Leverkusen and a Champions League playoff against Celtic. However, their immediate focus shifts to Werder Bremen this Friday.

Transfer News:

In transfer news, Bayern's young striker Mathys Tel will not be moving to Manchester United before the transfer window closes.

Reports initially suggested a transfer was imminent, but negotiations between Bayern and Manchester United fell through, with the latter preferring a loan deal with an option to buy, while Bayern insisted on a permanent transfer. Arsenal remain in the race for Tel's signature.

On another front, Bayern's young left-back Adam Aznou is set to join Real Valladolid on loan. The 18-year-old Moroccan, who made his senior debut against Union Berlin, has seen limited action this season.

With Josip Stanisic, Sacha Boey, and Hiroki Ito all returning or nearing recovery from injuries, Aznou's chances for first-team minutes at Bayern appear slim. He is expected to undergo a medical and finalize his move to Spain on Monday.
