Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt is set to return to the starting line-up to face Galatasaray at Rams Park in Istanbul for a Champions League encounter.
The Dutchman is well aware of the challenges that lie ahead in this fiercely contested match.
"Galatasaray always play with the whole stadium behind them, which is always difficult for the opponent. They have a lot of experience, many good players who have played in the top leagues. I expect a very difficult game tomorrow," stated the 24-year-old De Ligt, as reported by @iMiaSanMia.
When asked about the threat posed by Galatasaray's star striker Mauro Icardi, De Ligt remained pragmatic. "I haven't heard anything about that yet. Of course, we always look at what qualities our opponents have. But Galatasaray is not just Icardi; there are plenty of other good players too," emphasized De Ligt.
De Ligt also opened up about his injury-riddled start to the season. Despite enduring a challenging period, he is determined to contribute to the team's success. "As a footballer, you always want to play. My start to the season wasn't easy; I was coming off an injury.
"I'm fit again and hopefully I can help the team. I feel good, I played 90 minutes in the last game, which is good. I'm not completely pain-free yet, but I think that's normal. As a professional footballer, you always have a bit of pain; you have to endure it. We need everyone right now."
Galatasaray, initially seen as underdogs in the UEFA Champions League Group A alongside Copenhagen, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich, have defied expectations. A thrilling 3-2 victory at Old Trafford in the last round, combined with a remarkable 2-2 comeback against Copenhagen in gameweek one, have put them in a strong position to reach the knockout stages for the first time in a decade.
In contrast, Bayern Munich, who were the favourites to top the group and secure their place in the knockout stages for the 15th consecutive season, have lived up to expectations. With two wins from their first two matches, they've continued to display their attacking prowess. Following their victory over Manchester United in gameweek one, they secured a 2-1 away win against Copenhagen. This win further solidified their reputation for scoring at least two goals in all their competitive away games this season, with an impressive record of five wins and one draw.
As the stage is set for a showdown in Istanbul, all eyes will be on De Ligt's return to action and whether Galatasaray can continue their impressive run in the Champions League. With Bayern's attacking firepower on display, this clash promises to be an enthralling battle that football fans won't want to miss.
