Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich signs new deal

Bayern Munich have secured a major coup by tying down Joshua Kimmich to a fresh contract, ensuring the German skipper remains at the Allianz Arena until 2029.

The 29-year-old midfielder, whose previous deal was set to run out this summer, has put pen to paper after months of talks, ending speculation about his future.

The Bavarians wasted no time in celebrating the news. "We are delighted that Joshua Kimmich will continue his journey at FC Bayern," FC Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has said.

"He is someone who always leads from the front, be it at the club or as Germany captain. His hunger is unbroken, as we saw again in the Champions League round of 16. His determination and his commitment embody what FC Bayern stand for.

"He should be the bridge between our current generation and a new era."

Kimmich, a Bayern stalwart since joining from RB Leipzig in 2015, has made over 350 appearances for the club, lifting eight Bundesliga titles and the Champions League in 2020.

Reflecting on his decision, he said: "At FC Bayern I have the best environment to achieve my sporting goals. That is what my decision was based on. For me at the moment, there is no better package of team-mates, coaching staff and club environment in order to achieve maximum success. I feel at home here and I am not finished yet."

The announcement comes as Bayern Munich are battling on multiple fronts this season, sitting atop the Bundesliga and preparing for a Champions League quarter-final clash. Kimmich's extension is a timely boost for head coach Vincent Kompany, who has relied heavily on the versatile star's leadership and tenacity in midfield.

Meanwhile, Kimmich himself took to X to share his gratitude, posting: "Proud to stay with this incredible club. More to come!"

With his signature secured, Bayern Munich are banking on Kimmich to steer them through their current campaign and into a new chapter of dominance. For the man himself, the mission remains clear: keep winning.
