SuperSport United and AmaZulu FC played to a goalless draw in their Betway Premiership encounter at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday night.
Neither side was able to find the cutting edge in attack, and the match ended in a 0-0 stalemate, leaving SuperSport in 12th place and AmaZulu in 6th.
AmaZulu started the game on the front foot but SuperSport gradually grew into the match, with their first real attempt coming from Lebohang Maboe, whose shot was brilliantly saved by AmaZulu goalkeeper Veli Mothwa.
The hosts continued to create chances throughout the remainder of the first half, but either missed the target or were thwarted by Mothwa, leaving the score tied at 0-0 at halftime.
In response, AmaZulu made two substitutions at the start of the second half, bringing on Elmo Kambindu and Ben Motshwari. Their presence allowed the visitors to push higher up the field and disrupt United's dominance from the final stages of the first half.
SuperSport brought on Enoch Quaicoe and Bradley Grobler in a bid to break the deadlock, but despite both teams continuing to push forward, neither could find the breakthrough, and the game ended in a well-deserved draw.
SuperSport's next match will be a Nedbank Cup quarterfinal against Orlando Pirates this weekend, while AmaZulu will travel to face log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns in their next league outing on March 11.
CT City drop points as Galaxy fight back for draw
Cape Town City managed to avoid a fifth consecutive defeat in the Betway Premiership after settling for a 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy at Athlone Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The draw saw the Citizens remain in 10th place in the standings, having recorded their fourth league stalemate of the season. Coach Muhsin Ertugral will now focus on their upcoming fixture against his former club, Kaizer Chiefs, set for 12 March.
Meanwhile, TS Galaxy stayed in 7th place after coming from behind to earn a valuable point. Coach Adnan Beganovic's side will be eager to bounce back to winning ways when they take on SuperSport United in their next league encounter on 11 March.
Darwin Gonzalez put Cape Town City ahead with a 31st-minute strike, giving them a 1-0 lead. However, their advantage was short-lived, as TS Galaxy equalized just eight minutes later through Mlungisi Mbunjana as the sides went into the break locked at 1-1.
City came out of the locker rooms intent on retaking the lead, and Ertugral made a tactical change in the 62nd minute, substituting Frank Makaringe for debutant Thulani Serero, who was playing his first match for the club.
The game's final opportunity came in the 90th minute when Siphamandla Dondolo had a chance to snatch a late winner. However, his effort was denied by TS Galaxy goalkeeper Ira Eliezer Tape, ensuring the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Richards Bay triumph late to defeat Sekhukhune
In a thrilling finish, Richards Bay snatched all three points from Sekhukhune United with a dramatic 93rd-minute free-kick by second-half substitute Thabiso Kutumela, securing a 2-1 victory in Umlazi.
Richards Bay started the match with intensity, registering their first attempt on goal just two minutes into the game. Moses Mthembu saw his shot blocked from the center of the area after a ball was floated in by Justice Figuareido.
However, it was Sekhukhune United who struck first in the eighth minute, capitalizing on their first real opportunity. Chibuike Ohizu made a brilliant run into the box and calmly guided the ball into the net with a right-footed shot from just outside the area, giving Babina Noko the lead.
Sekhukhune maintained their advantage as the teams headed into halftime but after the break, Richards Bay came out stronger, creating a few chances, and finally found the equalizer just before the hour mark. through Fezile Gcaba from a corner.
Richards Bay began to dominate possession after the 70th minute but struggled to capitalize on their attacking opportunities. Sekhukhune, meanwhile, found it difficult to regain control of the game.
In the dying moments of the match, Richards Bay completed their comeback in dramatic fashion. In stoppage time, Kutumela stepped up to take a free-kick just outside the penalty area, and with a clinical right-footed strike, he secured the win, leaving Richards Bay with all three points.
