Betway Premiership wrap: Victories for Chippa United, Stellenbosch and Magesi

Chippa United saw off Cape Town City, Stellenbosch needed late heroics to beat TS Galaxy while Magesi continued their relegation fight with victory over Polokwane City in Betway Premiership action.

Kwayiba scores a brace to help Chippa sink Citizens

Sinoxolo Kwayiba struck a second-half brace to help Chippa United to a commanding 2-0 victory over Cape Town City at Athlone Stadium.

It was the home team that started strongly with visiting goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali denying Gabriel Amato, Kayden Francis and Thabo Nodada in the opening 20 minutes.

The Chilli Boys upped the tempo in the second half though and deservedly took the lead just after the hour mark when Kwayiba showed good composure before beating Darren Keet from close-range.

Kwayiba then made sure the visitors would take maximum points with 20 minutes remaining after another cool finish after being set up by substitute Ronaldo Maarman.

Substitute Cupido the hero for Stellenbosch as they beat Galaxy

Ashley Cupido came off the bench to score two late goals as Stellenbosch beat TS Galaxy 3-2 at the Mbombela Stadium.

Stellies broke the deadlock in the 17th minute when Devin Titus scored but Galaxy equalised through Victor Letsoalo to make it 1-1 at the halftime break.

Dzenan Zajmovic then put the home team in front three minutes after the interval and Galaxy held their slender lead until the closing stages of the contest.

Cupido, who was introduced from the with 15 minutes remaining, netted in the 83rd minute to make it 2-2 before the forward grabbed his brace in stoppage-time to the visitors take maximum points.

Magesi stun Polokwane to continue survival fight

Magesi FC made in back-to-back league victories when they stunned Polokwane City 1-0 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The only goal of the encounter was scored after 20 minutes when Thabang Sibanyoni found the back of the net with a diving header from a Mcedi Vandala free-kick.

Polokwane dominated possession in the closing stages, desperately searching for an equaliser, but goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze stood firm between the sticks for Magesi.

In the end, Rise and Shine were left frustrated as they failed to convert their dominance into goals, while Magesi walked away with a vital three points in their fight for survival.
