Borussia Dortmund to stick with Nuri Sahin despite third loss in a row

Borussia Dortmund have decided to stand by their head coach Nuri Sahin despite a third consecutive defeat in the 2025 Bundesliga season.

The team suffered a 2-0 loss against Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday night, adding to the pressure on Sahin.

Dortmund are currently languishing in 10th place in the Bundesliga standings, but sporting director Sebastian Kehl has reaffirmed the club's support for Sahin. "We will continue in this constellation. Nuri has our trust," Kehl said post-match to DAZN.

He added, "We will not escape criticism and we will continue to work on ourselves."

Sahin, reflecting on the support, stated, "The arguments are performance and results. I don't need confirmation that I'm in office every three days. We all know the situation. You can either doubt yourself or you can accept this catastrophic situation and stand your ground.

"I won't ask for anything else until the last day I'm here as coach."

The match against Frankfurt was marked by Dortmund's struggle to recover from a midweek defeat to Kiel.

Early in the game, Hugo Ekitike scored for Frankfurt in the 18th minute, capitalizing on a cross from Rasmus Kristensen. Despite some promising plays, including a near miss by Serhou Guirassy in the 9th minute, Dortmund couldn't find the back of the net.

The second half saw Sahin making a change at halftime with Yan Couto coming on for Ramy Bensebaini, but Frankfurt's defense, bolstered by goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, held firm.

The game was sealed in added time when Oscar Hojlund scored, ensuring Frankfurt's victory.

The match was not without controversy, as Dortmund felt they should have had a penalty when Nnamdi Collins appeared to foul Jamie Gittens inside the box, but referee Daniel Schlager did not agree.

With Dortmund's current form, the backing of the club's management will be crucial for Sahin as he aims to steer the team back into contention.
