Breaking: Sekhukhune United sack Lehlohonolo Seema

SABC Sport can confirm Kaitano Tembo and Paulus Masehe will take charge of Sekhukhune United following the club’s decision to sack Lehlohonolo Seema with immediate effect.

This comes in the wake of speculation over Seema’s future for several weeks now after Eric Tinkler emerged as a strong candidate be appointed as his replacement for the remainder of the season.

Seema was sacked on the same day he was allowed to attend the Nedbank Cup press conference ahead of their quarter-final fixture against Mamelodi Sundowns at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.

The coach was asked about his job security having suffered a 2-1 defeat away to Richards Bay in the Betway Premiership last night, but Seema gave them impression he would still be in the dugout this weekend.

Confirmation of his sacking reached the public broadcaster several hours later, with Tembo and Masehe expected to take the reins.

Tinkler will then likely be given the role in the coming weeks and be allowed to prepare the team for next season as well as guide Sekhukhune to their highest finish in the league between now and May.

While results have been inconsistent, Seema leaves the team currently in fourth place on the log table with 10 games to go – so there are some suggestions the sacking isn’t necessary about results, but rather a broken relationship.

Seema was let go by Babina Noko around the same time last season, with German mentor Peter Hyballa hired before the start of the 2024/25 campaign only to be sacked without ever sitting on the bench.

It was Seema who returned to the club but a year later has now been sent packing ahead of a crucial cup tie against Sundowns.
