Brooklyn Poggenpoel reunites with Gavin Hunt more mature

SuperSport United midfielder Brooklyn Poggenpoel says he’s found the environment at his new club welcoming as he crosses paths with coach Gavin Hunt again.

The 24-year-old was coming up the Bidvest Wits ranks during Hunt’s successful stint there prior to The Clever Boys’ topflight status being sold.

Poggenpoel spoke about his surprise move away from Chippa United on a free transfer.

''I think it is a fantastic move. I feel it is at the right time of my career, just happy to be here. It is a great club, a great group of guys and they are very welcoming. Everyone is just here to work and contribute to the success of the club,'' said Poggenpoel.

After 22 appearances for Chippa last season, Poggenpoel expected to stick around in Gqeberha – but he says everything has its own timing.

''I mean, football is forever changing, just got to move on. I am happy with what I have achieved at Chippa, giving me the opportunity to play in the PSL. But it is what it is, I am happy to be here. My focus is on SuperSport and contributing to the success of the club,'' added Poggenpoel.

Poggenpoel, who was part of Bafana Bafana’s COSAFA Cup squad recently, also reflected on getting another chance to work with Hunt.

''Looking forward to working with him. To work hard and look forward to the possibilities of playing for coach Gavin. Just to come in and contribute when called upon,'' he concluded.

The midfielder spent most of his career in Cape Town at lower division clubs and is now relishing the window to finally challenge for titles with Matsatsantsa.
