The Citizens narrowly beat a stubborn Polokwane City on Wednesday night at Athlone Stadium to register their second victory of the league campaign.
Tinkler sees this as a turning point.
''Three points at home were extremely important. We needed to start on a front foot, because obviously five games into the league and only having five points for us as a club that is not good enough,'' said Tinkler.
City went into the FIFA break on the back of a goalless draw against Magesi followed by a 3-0 loss away to Mamelodi Sundowns and then being booted out of the cup by Richards Bay.
Tinkler explained why bouncing back was non-negotiable.
''We know the games against Sundowns, the performance wasn't great and the result wasn't great. With Magesi, a 0-0 draw. So we have focused on the last couple of weeks, especially on the final third. A little bit more control and more composure, and I think we did that today. I think we were more dominant than what we have shown in the past couple of games,'' added Tinkler.
The City coach added that there were still some missing elements, like the goal threat from key midfielder Haashim Domingo.
Overall, Tinkler insisted he cared more about the win even though the performance against a tricky Polokwane City was still easy on the eye.
''Very important the results, more than the performance. We spoke about that, good teams always find a way to win irrespective. I think the players did that, loved the intensity, loved the energy from everyone,'' he expressed.
