Carlo Ancelotti breaks records as Real Madrid's most successful manager

Carlo Ancelotti became Real Madrid's most successful manager, surpassing the iconic Miguel Munoz by winning his 15th trophy with the club.

The Italian's latest triumph came with victory in the Intercontinental Cup, cementing his status as one of the game's managerial greats.

In the Wednesday's Intercontinental Cup final, Los Blancos defeated Mexican club CF Pachuca 3-0 at Lusail Stadium with goals by Kylian Mbappe, Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior.

Ancelotti equalled Munoz's record of 14 titles earlier this year by leading Real Madrid to the UEFA Super Cup victory over Atalanta. Reflecting on his achievements before the Intercontinental Cup final, Ancelotti said: "It's an honour to be compared to great managers. I believe I've done a good job, and I want to keep contributing to this club's success."

The Intercontinental Cup win was a first for Ancelotti, who already holds two Club World Cups among his accolades. This year's competition was particularly noteworthy as it marked the first time the Club World Cup and Intercontinental Cup were held separately.

Ancelotti's remarkable haul with Real Madrid now includes three Champions League titles, two Club World Cups, three UEFA Super Cups, two La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies, two Spanish Super Cups, and the newly claimed Intercontinental Cup.

The victory was especially satisfying for Ancelotti, who had suffered defeat in the 2003 Intercontinental Cup final with AC Milan against Boca Juniors.

Real Madrid's history with the Intercontinental Cup dates back to wins in 1960, 1998, and 2002 under the guidance of Munoz, Guus Hiddink, and Vicente del Bosque, respectively. Ancelotti has now eclipsed these legends in terms of trophies won, setting a new standard at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Miguel Munoz still holds the record for the longest managerial tenure at Real Madrid, spending 14 years in charge. His legacy includes two European Cups, one Intercontinental Cup, nine La Liga titles, and two Spanish Cups, alongside a glittering playing career with the club.

With 15 trophies, Ancelotti has overtaken greats like Zinedine Zidane, who won 11 titles, and Vicente del Bosque, who secured seven. This milestone not only solidifies Ancelotti's legacy at Real Madrid but also his place among football's most decorated managers.
