Chiefs finished 2023 having collected 10 points from a possible 12 before the season went on a recess for the Africa Cup of Nations in December, and they return to face Royal AM at Harry Gwala stadium in Pietermaritzburg this afternoon.
Speaking to the club's media department, Johnson says a second-spot finish and winning the Nedbank Cup title are the realistic targets for the silverware-starved Amakhosi.
"We are Kaizer Chiefs and we have to stamp our authority, or continue where we left off in 2023, and that means we have to carry on winning games," said Johnson.
"We've [also] got to make sure we go as far as we can in the Nedbank Cup, and it starts now and I think our players are all up for the challenge."
Johnson’s targets and ambitions for the second round of the season are shared by midfielder Yusuf Maart, who has also been donning the captain's armband, particularly in the absence of the injured Keagan Dolly.
"I think each and everyone here in the team want to win something; the technical team, on the management side and whoever works at the Village, they all want it as badly as we want it," added Maart.
"So we will put our effort out there to win anything we can that is in front of us now – there's two [trophies] left, so possibly there is one for us, or maybe both, you never know with the effort we can put in as a team, stand together and be united.
"And I just want to say to the fans, thank you for being patient, we will try our level best as players and the technical team to put our effort in to bring something home."
