Chippa United end winless run with home victory against Golden Arrows

Chippa United brought their five-match winless run to an end after beating Golden Arrows 2-0 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

A first-half strike by Ronaldo Maarman and a late effort from Craig Martin ensured the Chilli Boys moved up to 18 points after 14 matches following a fourth win of the campaign.

The home team started strongly and should have been in front early but Augustine Mulenga fluffed his lines after being presented with a good opportunity.

They did not however did not have to wait to long to take the lead as Maarman found the top corner with a free-kick just before the 20-minute mark.

The Chilli Boys then nearly doubled their lead soon after but Mulenga saw his deflected effort crash into the upright.

Arrows came close to the equaliser but Nduduzo Sibiya had his effort well-saved by home goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili.

Chippa then put the game to bed deep into stoppage-time when Martin beat the offside trap to slot the ball into the net.
