The 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League winners are the first African team to be invited to the tournament, which is scheduled to be played in August in Missouri.
Despite the tough opposition, Morifi explains that their mandate is clear.
''I think we are very blessed as a team - the first African team to get an invitation to this tournament, it is a very big thing for us. We are trying not to think about it now because we have an assignment here at home. But the ladies are very excited about it, we are looking forward to it and you know the mandate at Sundowns is always to try and win the tournament,'' said Morifi.
On the domestic front, Morifi has admitted that the 2024 Hollywoodbets Super League season is by far the toughest they have played in since inception. Sundowns Ladies are top of the table, tied on 28 points with the youthful second-placed University of Johannesburg, while the University of the Western Cape and TS Galaxy are breathing down their neck in third and fourth spots respectively.
The Sundowns Ladies team is bursting at the seams with talented players, some of whom lack game time. But Morifi says it’s important that they have a bloated squad as they are involved in several competitions throughout the year and that individual players need to be ready all the time.
''Very tough to be honest, last season this time, we were not where we are. But I think it's good, you can tell women's football is growing. The coaches are now becoming more wiser in how they approach games. It is good for the fans and it is good for the league,'' added Morifi.
After a dominant 6-nil win over First Touch Ladies, the Brazilians take on a stubborn Copperbelt Ladies in their next Hollywoodbets Super League assignment on Saturday, and Morifi says the Limpopo outfit, which is only in its second season in the league, is one the toughest customers in the current campaign.
