Clinton Larsen resigns as Magesi FC head coach after Carling Cup defeat

Clinton Larsen announced his resignation as Magesi FC head coach immediately after watching his team lose 3-0 against the Carling All Stars in the Carling Cup on Saturday at Orlando Stadium.

Larsen's decision to vacate his role is a huge shock after leading Magesi to promotion into the top-flight last season and then winning the Carling Knockout trophy this campaign after beating Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in last month's final.

The Limpopo-based club are however languishing at the bottom of the league standings after accumulating six points from their opening nine matches that included only one victory.

Larsen told SABC Sport in the post-match presentation after the defeat on Saturday: "This is my last game as Magesi coach.

"I am bidding farewell to the club after two years, helping the team get promoted as well as winning a trophy.

"Those are two moments I am very proud of. I wish the club all the best moving forward. I thank the chairman for giving me the opportunity to lead this club."

Kaizer Chiefs duo Naledi Hlongwane - an 18 year-old from the Diski side -  scored a brace, and Samkelo Zwane found the net to put the All Stars 3-0 ahead within the opening 30 minutes of the contest.
