CT City’s Aprocius Petrus eager to emulate Shalulile, Hotto, Hanamub

Namibian international Aprocius Petrus believes compatriots Peter Shalulile, Deon Hotto and Riaan Hanamub have laid a solid foundation to pick up on.

The defensive midfielder signed for Cape Town City late last season, making nine league appearances to help the club finish in the top eight.

City added attacker Prins Tjiueza to their squad in June, a move Petrus says will also benefit him personally as he looks to make his name in SA.

''For me I feel much more comfortable now, having one of my hometown teammates around me. And for him also coming into the squad and finding me here is more comfortable. I want to write my own story and level up,'' said Petrus.

Petrus attributed the influx of Namibian players to the PSL to his native country’s talent pool.

''The players that are coming from Namibia, the likes of Shalulile and Hotto, it is because the scouts know that when they go to Namibia, they will find great talent,'' added Petrus.

Coach Eric Tinkler also spoke about the changing dynamics in the market, enabling players to move across – especially Angola.

''I know for a fact that even when I was at Pirates, we were chasing players from Angola. Back then it was difficult to get the players from Angola because of the amount of money they were making. But the market has changed, so they now can come to South Africa and earn more than what they are earning there,'' said Tinkler.
