Middendorp made this comment following Spurs’ 18th loss in the DStv Premiership season, going down 1-0 to Sekhukhune United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane yesterday.
A win for Vusumuzi Vilakazi’s team, will see them extending the gap between them and Spurs to eight points with only six games to go.
This is what Middendorp is trying to avoid.
"It's just in this moment frustrating, shocking that with these nonsense errors, individual errors, we are bringing ourselves into a terrible situation, totally unnecessary. We have a game on Friday against Richards Bay at the moment we have to be fans of Kaizer Chiefs that they do the job tomorrow [Sunday] and take the game against Richards Bay seriously,” Middendorp said.
“We play Richards Bay, it's a Friday evening game, we can probably reduce the distance [gap in the log table], it's our job in this moment to make it happen and to come back into a distance of two points and then we have a home game against Polokwane on Tuesday. Richards Bay play AmaZulu, let's wait and see what happens but we can talk and talk. We have to show another way of handling a soccer game, you can't make obvious mistakes."
Sekhukhune scored through Asekho Tiwani’s long-range strike, who benefited from a howler from Spurs keeper Zama Dlamini and Middendorp laments these costly mistakes.
"Another game with an individual mistake. We had it against Swallows in the end of the game, individual mistake to get a 0-1 loss. We had it against Sundowns, before the penalty came we were capable to clarify the ball, we gave away a penalty.
”We had it with Chippa giving them the 0-1. We had it today again, totally unnecessary. The script of this game today was very clear, 0-0. With the game getting more minutes I believe there could have been a chance to counter the press a little higher but anyway we are very generous in this moment. It's now game number four in a row where we make individual mistakes bringing us in a position not to come back."
