DFB-Pokal: Third-tier side Arminia Bielefeld stun Werder Bremen

Arminia Bielefeld continued their remarkable DFB-Pokal run by eliminating Werder Bremen with a 2-1 victory at the SchucoArena, securing their place in the semi-finals qualification.

The 3. Liga side had already knocked out Hannover 96, FC Union Berlin, and SC Freiburg, and they added another Bundesliga scalp with a resilient performance.

The hosts started brightly, with Joel Felix nearly meeting a cross in the 10th minute. Werder responded three minutes later, but Marvin Ducksch's low shot went just wide.

Bielefeld took the lead in the 35th minute when Marius Worl won possession and curled a stunning shot in off the far post.

Just six minutes later, Julian Malatini turned a Mael Corboz cross into his own net, doubling Bielefeld's advantage before half-time.

Werder pushed forward after the break, but Bielefeld goalkeeper Jonas Kersken denied Justin Njinmah in a crucial one-on-one situation.

The visitors finally broke through in the 56th minute when Oliver Burke finished off a Leonardo Bittencourt pass. Njinmah went close again in the 62nd minute but volleyed wide.

As Werder pressed for an equaliser, they came agonisingly close in stoppage time. Amos Pieper's header rattled the crossbar in the 91st minute, and in the dying seconds, Mitchell Weiser squandered a final opportunity, blasting his shot over.
