While Felix's imminent departure from Atletico seemed certain, especially after his expressed admiration for a move to Barcelona, Simeone's words have added a twist to the narrative.
As Atletico triumphed 3-1 over Granada on Monday, Felix remained sidelined. Nonetheless, the passionate Metropolitano crowd made their sentiments towards the young player abundantly clear.
Addressing Felix's situation as per Diario AS, Simeone conveyed, "The La Liga has commenced, and he (Felix) is part of our squad. He comprehends our requisites and aspirations, as well as the demands we place on him. He must vie with the likes of Memphis, Griezmann, Morata, and Correa. Should he outshine them, he shall earn his place."
Simeone's stance appeared to reflect the principles he valuesexemplified by newcomers Caglar Soyuncu and Cesar Azpilicueta. "These two individuals arrived with humility, keen to contribute from their positions within the squad. They displayed an earnest desire to compete for a spot in the starting line-up," Simeone remarked.
"Soyuncu, not initially a first-choice, exhibited the tenacity required for those hungry to playpowerful in duels and commanding in aerial contests. Cesar, a spirited player, can excel both as a central defender and a full-back, illustrating his commitment to the team's cause."
While Felix's resurgence in Atletico's starting eleven seems improbable, Simeone's message introduces an element of unpredictability.
In the absence of a suitable departure for Felix in the ensuing weeks, fate may dictate his continued involvement. Should this transpire, Felix is bound for training until at least January a scenario neither party likely envisioned.
