The Zambian international joined Matsatsantsa from Power Dynamos in August 2018 and has grown in stature at the club, becoming a key player in the seasons under different coaches at the Tshwane side.
Lungu was in the final months of his initial deal, which was set to expire at the end of the current campaign on 30 June.
But in making sure the Chipolopolo international doesn’t leave SuperSport on a free transfer after all the years of investment, the public broadcaster has been informed the utility winger will be staying on for another two seasons.
The 25-year-old featured in an impressive 20 games in all competitions during his debut season under then coach Kaitano Tembo and has been one of the consistent players for Tshwane outfit since.
With five matches to go, Lungu has played in 30 fixtures this season – including five in SuperSport busy CAF Confederation Cup schedule – scoring four goals and contributing with an additional two assists.
Among the reasons given to SABC Sport when information of his contract extension was confirmed is that Lungu is “versatile, hardworking, gets goals as well as assists and is a great squad player who is admired by his teammates”.
Furthermore, with SuperSport coach Gavin Hunt mostly relying on young players for the better part of the season Lungu has emerged as one of the stand out senior players and leader even at his age of 25.
The new deal means his contract will run until June 2026 and that is still before the player who has 15 caps for Zambia turns 30.
