Currently positioned fourth in the league, they have amassed seven points from four games, showcasing one loss, one draw, and two wins.
Additionally, the Buccaneers have clinched the first leg of the MTN8 semi-finals against Stellenbosch FC with a 2-1 victory and are eyeing a spot in the CAF Champions League group stage after advancing to the next round against Jwaneng Galaxy from Botswana.
What's turning heads in South African football, however, is the sentiment of a legendary figure in Orlando Pirates history, Edward "Magents" Motale. The former captain of the 1995 CAF Champions League-winning Pirates side has expressed his astonishment at the current squad's prowess.
In an interview with Soccer Laduma, the 57-year-old Motale emphasized, "Pirates' current squad scares me a lot. They have players who are willing to win for the team at all costs. It will be easy for them to compete both locally for all the trophies, including the league, and also for the Champions League."
Motale, who sees a glimmer of hope for Pirates in their pursuit of the league title against rivals Mamelodi Sundowns, believes that the new signings made during the off-season have significantly bolstered the squad. He stated, "They signed players who fit our system and have the hunger to play for Pirates.
"That's what is making this squad more dangerous this season. If they continue like this, we will have more positive results and trophies coming to the team."
With Motale's endorsement and the team's impressive start, Orlando Pirates seem poised for a promising campaign that could potentially yield silverware and rekindle the glory days of South African football.
