To put an end to speculations about a potential exit clause, Eintracht Frankfurt revealed on Friday evening that German national Mario Gotze had signed a new contract with the club.
Gotze's existing contract, initially set to expire at the end of the 2024/25 season, will now be extended for an additional year.
The club expressed its pride in Gotze's decision to commit himself to the team and continue playing in the heart of Europe.
Since his return to German football last season, Gotze has scored three goals and provided nine assists.
The former Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund star has appeared in numerous Bundesliga matches, scoring a total of 60 goals.
"The fact that Mario has committed himself to Eintracht Frankfurt for the long term is important news," Eintracht sporting director Markus Krosche remarked in a statement.
"He is an excellent fit for us, both personally and athletically, and is increasingly becoming one of the defining faces of Eintracht.
"He is a cornerstone in our team. His early contract extension gives us planning security in a key position.
"It also underscores our ambition to retain experienced players and identification figures at the club alongside young players with development potential."
"From day one, I've felt very comfortable at Eintracht Frankfurt," said Gotze.
"I have taken the club and the city to my heart. I also see myself here in the future and want to provide clarity with my early contract extension.
"I remain firmly convinced of Eintracht's great potential. The club has a clear plan and I identify with the goals."
