Borussia Dortmund's 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday night was due in large part to the versatility of Emre Can, according to trainer Edin Terzic.
Karim Adeyemi opened the scoring in the first half before Edmond Tapsoba's own goal sealed the Bundesliga victory.
With Bayer's line-up proving difficult to predict, Terzic relied on Can to step up and handle a crucial role in the centre of the field.
"We couldn't figure out how they would start," Terzic said. "That's why I had to have Emre Can at the [solo] six. With Emre in this position, we always had the option of getting him between the two centre-backs."
And step up he did, with Terzic praising Can for helping to "gain complete control of the game".
Despite facing a difficult season and no longer in the national team discussion, Can's versatility proved invaluable for Dortmund.
"It's great to have someone like that on the pitch," Terzic exclaimed. "Emre Can was the key to our success against Leverkusen."
