Everton sack Sean Dyche, Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman step in

Premier League side Everton have sacked Sean Dyche as their manager, just hours before their FA Cup third-round clash with Peterborough.

The decision comes with Everton languishing in 16th place, a mere point above the relegation zone.

An official statement from Everton Football Club confirmed, "Everton Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as Senior Men's First Team Manager with immediate effect. Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard, and Billy Mercer have also left the Club."

The club added that the search for a new manager is underway and that Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman will manage the team on an interim basis.

Dyche, who conducted training earlier that day, was dismissed at 4:34 pm, according to Sky Sports. His tenure, which lasted nearly two years, ended with a record of just one victory in the last 11 Premier League matches.

Sky Sports News reporter Vinny O'Connor commented, "Sean Dyche's contract has been terminated. We knew Everton's new owners were assessing the situation after the defeat to Bournemouth at the weekend. They had talked to other potential replacements, notably Graham Potter, but Potter signed with West Ham instead."

O'Connor highlighted the lack of scoring from Everton's forwards, notably Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has only managed two goals this season.

Speculation has arisen about potential replacements, with former Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho linked to the role. Currently at the helm of Fenerbahce in Turkey, whether Everton's interest in Mourinho is genuine or merely speculative remains to be seen.

Everton are set to face Peterborough, who sit 19th in League One, in the FA Cup. Despite the lower league opposition, the match could pose challenges given Everton's recent form and the sudden managerial change.

This abrupt managerial shift leaves Everton in a state of flux as they look to secure their Premier League status while also managing the immediate challenge of the FA Cup.
