The Bafana Bafana international is eager to make a name for himself in one of the fastest growing leagues in world football, but also with an eye to use it as a stepping stone to Europe when the time is right.
Blom has been sold by Chiefs to St Louis City, coached by Carnell, this month for a reported fee of around R5-million, signing a two-year contract.
“I believe the level of the league is quite high and there’s a lot of players there with experience, I am so excited. The MLS has been doing well in the past few years, bringing in quality players – just have a look at the big names that have come in. It’s growing,” Blom said on Monday night’s edition of Sports Night Amplified with Andile.
The 23-year-old isn’t bothered by suggestions that the MLS isn’t quite at the level other leagues like Spain, England and France are for instance.
“It’s a good move for me as a young player. I think everyone has their own opinion, for me it’s about the opportunity. It is a great step for me. The level will be different from the PSL and I just feel like I will learn a lot that side,” he explained.
“There’s obviously coach Bradley and he understands the culture – both from being a South African and being in the US. I think as a person, every time you move to the next chapter or club, you look for the growth and as a young player I feel like I have that chance now to play in the big leagues and I will use the MLS and the team to go to Europe. I am not going to get there and think I don’t have to work hard because there’s a South African coach. I have to still put in the work to be part of the team.”
