With no matches scheduled until Sunday, 20 October, manager Hansi Flick could have up to four players back in the fold for some pivotal upcoming clashes. The Catalan side face Bayern Munich in the Champions League, along with crucial La Liga fixtures against Sevilla, Real Madrid, Espanyol, and Real Sociedad.
Among those nearing a return are Fermin Lopez, Gavi, and Dani Olmo, who are all expected to leave the injury list soon.
Additionally, goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, who has been recovering, may also be available, bolstering Barcelona's options between the posts.
Robert Lewandowski recently revealed that Szczesny is on track to return within two weeks. While it's likely that Inaki Pena will retain his starting spot for the match against Sevilla, Szczesny's return would provide valuable experience as the season progresses. Lewandowski commented on Szczesny's progress, noting, "He's been working hard, and his return will be a major boost for us."
Gavi, sidelined since November 2023 due to a serious knee injury sustained while playing for Spain, has made significant strides in his recovery. After 11 months out, the young midfielder has started training with the team again. Flick, however, is cautious about rushing him back too soon, preferring to ease him into the squad.
Dani Olmo, who picked up a muscle injury in mid-September, is expected to be back after a month of recovery. The Spanish international had been in fine form before his injury and is working hard to be fit for the Sevilla game.
Fermin Lopez, meanwhile, was unlucky to suffer another injury in September, just as he returned to training. He has now completed his three-week recovery period and should be available soon, adding depth to Barcelona's midfield.
With these players returning, Barcelona will still have five remaining on the injury list. Long-term absentees include Andreas Christensen, Marc Bernal, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Ronald Araujo and Ferran Torres, who joined the injury list last weekend.
As Barcelona look to navigate a challenging stretch of the season, the return of Olmo, Fermin, Szczesny and Gavi couldn't come at a better time. Flick will be hoping their reintegration into the squad will provide the fresh legs needed to compete on multiple fronts.
